چکیده
We present a rigorous criterion for stability of spiralling solitary structures in Hamiltonian systems incorporating the angular momentum integral and demonstrate its applicability to the spiralling of two mutually incoherent optical beams propagating in a photorefractive material.

Stability analysis for pitchfork bifurcations of solitary waves in generalized nonlinear Schrdinger equations
Linear stability of both sign-definite (positive) and sign-indefinite solitary waves near pitchfork bifurcations is analyzed for the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equations with arbitrary forms of nonlinearity and external potentials in arbitrary spatial dimensions. Bifurcations of linear-stability eigenvalues associated with pitchfork bifurcations are analytically calculated. Based on thes...
متن کاملHamiltonian Structure and Linear Stability of Solitary Waves of the Green-Naghdi Equations
We investigate linear stability of solitary waves of a Hamiltonian system. Unlike weakly nonlinear water wave models, the physical system considered here is nonlinearly dispersive, and contains nonlinearity in its highest derivative term. This results in more detailed asymptotic analysis of the eigenvalue problem in presence of a large parameter. Combining the technique of singular perturbation...
متن کاملUnstable eigenvalues and the linearization about solitary waves and fronts with symmetry
The linear stability of solitary-wave or front solutions of Hamiltonian evolutionary equations, which are equivariant with respect to a Lie group, is studied. The organizing centre for the analysis is a multisymplectic formulation of Hamiltonian partial differential equations (PDEs) where a distinct symplectic operator is assigned for time and space. This separation of symplectic structures lea...
متن کاملA Bifurcation Theory for Three-Dimensional Oblique Travelling Gravity-Capillary Water Waves
This article presents a rigorous existence theory for small-amplitude three-dimensional travelling water waves. The hydrodynamic problem is formulated as an infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian system in which an arbitrary horizontal spatial direction is the time-like variable. Wave motions which are periodic in a second, different horizontal direction are detected using a centre-manifold reduction...
متن کاملSolitary Waves Under the Competition of Linear and Nonlinear Periodic Potentials
In this paper, we study the competition of linear and nonlinear lattices and its effects on the stability and dynamics of bright solitary waves. We consider both lattices in a perturbative framework, whereby the technique of Hamiltonian perturbation theory can be used to obtain information about the existence of solutions, and the same approach, as well as eigenvalue count considerations, can b...
